Añor, Sonia

Small animal stream

DVM, PhD, Dipl ECVN, Dipl ACVIM-Neurology (Autonomous University of Barcelona, Barcelona. Spain)

Sonia Añor graduated from the Veterinary School of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) in 1990. She completed an Internship and modified Neurology Residency at the University of Georgia (1991-1993), and passed European Neurology Boards, becoming a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Neurology (ECVN) in 1996. Dr. Añor was an Associate Professor of the Animal Medicine and Surgery Department (UAB) from 1993 to 1997. In 1997, Dr. Añor worked as a Clinical Instructor in Neurology at the University of Georgia for one year, and then enrolled into a residency program in Neurology/Neurosurgery at the University of California, Davis (1998-2001), to become a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM, Neurology) in 2001. She also completed a PhD in Clinical Neurophysiology at the UAB (1994-2002). Dr. Añor is currently a Professor at the Animal Medicine and Surgery Department of the UAB and she is also Head of the Neurology/Neurosurgery Service of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at the same university.

Armengou, Lara

DVM, PhD, Dipl ECEIM (Autonomous University of Barcelona, Barcelona. Spain)

She obtained her veterinary degree at the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB, Spain) in 2001. Afterwards, she spent 2 months at the McPhail Equine Performance Center, Michigan State University, USA. She completed an equine internship and an equine internal medicine residency at the Unitat Equina of the Hospital Clínic Veterinari of Barcelona (UE-HCV). She is Diplomate of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine since February 2009 and she completed her PhD with grants in November 2010. She has had professional experience working in several private equine hospitals and since 2008 she is Assistant professor at the Universitat Autònoma of Barcelona and member of the Equine internal Medicine Service of the UE-HCV. Her areas of interest are equine neonatology and hemostasis.

Boag, Amanda

MA, Vet MB, Dipl ACVECC, Dipl ACVIM, FHEA, MRCVS (Royal Veterinary College, London. United Kingdom)

Amanda graduated from Cambridge University in 1998. She undertook further clinical training at the Royal Veterinary College and the University of Pennsylvania and is Board certified in both Internal Medicine and Emergency and Critical Care. She was a Lecturer in Emergency and Critical Care at the RVC from 2003-2008. In September 2008, she took up the post of Clinical Director at Vets Now where she has responsibility for clinical standards and training across 50 sites. She is the author of many peer reviewed articles and book chapters and is Co-editor of the BSAVA Manual of Emergency and Critical Care. She acts as a veterinary consultant for both Pet Blood Bank and the Veterinary Poisons Information Service and is currently President of the European Society of Emergency and Critical Care.

Bruchim, Yaron

Graduated from Israeli Veterinary Internal Medicine Specialist (IVIMS). Lecture of Veterinary Medicine, Small animal Emergency and Critical Care Unit (Koret School of Veterinary Medicine, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem). Special interests include heat stroke in dogs, gastric dilatation and volvolus, respiratory distress syndrome, positive pressure ventilation, disseminated intravascular coagulation, snake bites and intoxications.

Cesarini, Carla

Graduated in Veterinary Medicine in the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain, in 2000. She specialized in equine medicine completing an internship in the Dierenkliniek de Morette, Belgium (2001-2002) and a residency in Large Animal Medicine in the Université de Montréal, Québec, Canada (2003-2006). She is diplomate of the american and european colleges of equine internal medicine (ACVIM, ECEIM) and author/coauthor of several national and international scientific publications. Currently she works as associate professor in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and as equine clinician in the Equine Medicine Service of the veterinary hospital in the same faculty.

Cunilleras, Eduardo J.

Eduard Jose-Cunilleras graduated from the Veterinary Faculty of Barcelona Spain in 1997. After completion of an Equine Internal Medicine Residency at The Ohio State University, he became Dip. ACVIM (Large Animal) in 2001. His clinical and research interests include exercise physiology, carbohydrate and energy metabolism, coagulopathies, neurological disorders, acid-base and electrolyte balance and many others. Eduard has worked in academia and private practice in the US and UK, and he joined the Veterinary Faculty of Barcelona in 2008 as Lecturer in Equine Medicine.

Devey, Jennifer

DVM, Dipl ACVECC (Lauderdale Veterinary Specialists, Florida. United States)

Jennifer is a graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph. She did an internship and an emergency and critical care residency at the Animal Emergency Center in Milwaukee, WI and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 1996. She subsequently completed a surgical residency in 2004 studying at several private practices in the USA. Jennifer has been director of emergency and intensive care services at a number of large private referral practices in Canada and the United States. She has published over 50 articles and book chapters, is actively involved in research, and is a member of seven professional veterinary organizations around the world. Jennifer enjoys teaching and is actively involved in training interns and residents as well as lecturing and teaching workshops to nurses and doctors.

Dodd, Lindsey

BSc (Hons) VNPA RVN (University of Liverpool, Liverpool. United Kingdom)

Lindsey Dodd graduated as a Registered Veterinary Nurse from the University of Bristol with a degree in Veterinary nursing and practice administration and a certificate in Veterinary Practice administration. After graduating in 2007 she spent a period in general practice after which she joined the team at the University of Liverpool Small Animal Teaching Hospital to run the Intensive Care Unit. She has lectured for BSAVA, BVNA, various private UK CPD companies and became an international speaker in America during IVECCS 2011. Throughout the year she will be lecturing at various CPD events in the UK. She sits on the European Veterinary Emergency Critical Care Society general board and is on the membership committee for the Veterinary Emergency Critical Care society (VECCS). Her special interests lie in critical, intensive and emergency care nursing.

Fletcher, Dan J.

Dr. Fletcher obtained a BS in Electrical Engineering at Drexel University and a PhD in Bioengineering from the University of California Berekely and San Francisco before completing his veterinary degree at the University of California Davis. He did his rotating small animal medicine and surgery internship and residency in Emergency and Critical Care at the University of Pennsylvania. He has been on the faculty of the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine since 2006. His research interests include neurotrauma, disorders of fibrinolysis, and the use of simulation in veterinary medical training. He recently received the Cornell Student American Veterinary Medical Association Excellence in Clinical Sciences Teaching award in December 2011.

Martorell, Jaume

Jaume Martorell graduated at the “Facultat de Veterinària” of the “Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona” (UAB) in 1993 and completed a residency in wildlife and exotic animals at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of Barcelona in 1994.  From 1995 to 2000 he worked in private exotic pet practice in Mallorca. Since 2000 to these days Dr. Martorell is professor at the “Facultat de Veterinària” of Barcelona and head of the Exotic Pet Medicine Service of the “Hospital Clinic Veterinari”. He received his PhD in Animal Medicine and Surgery from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2006.In 2011 He has been recognize as Diplomate for the European College of Zoological Medicine, specialty in small mammals. Author of several papers in scientific journals and speaker in numerous national courses and congresses.  He is an active member several veterinary associations such as AAV, GMCAE-AVEPA and AEMV.

Graduated in 2003 at the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona. In 2007 obtained the PhD at the same university. In 2007 enrolled a residency training programme in veterinary diagnostic imaging at Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh, continuing and finishing this at Glasgow University Vet School. In 2010 became a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. Currently working as an associate teacher at the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona and a member of the diagnostic imaging service of the Fundació Hospital Clinic Veterinari.

Josep Pastor graduated from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 1989. He presented his PhD thesis at the same University in 1994. He is diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Clinical Pathology since 2002. His main areas of interest are hematology and clinical oncology.

Piercy, Richard

Equine stream

MA, Vet MB, MS, PhD, Dipl ACVIM, MRCVS (Royal Veterinary College, London. United Kingdom)

Richard qualified from Cambridge University in 1994. After two years in private equine practice he moved to the USA and completed a residency in equine internal medicine at The Ohio State University and a Master of Science degree in muscle physiology and disease. He returned to the UK to complete doctoral training in molecular and cellular biology of neuromuscular diseases as a Wellcome Fellow at the Dubowitz Neuromuscular Centre, Imperial College from where he attained his PhD. Richard is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and Reader in Comparative Neuromuscular Disease at the Royal Veterinary College. His clinical work involves horses with neurological and neuromuscular diseases; he runs a veterinary neuromuscular diagnostic laboratory and his research group focuses on equine and canine myopathies and neuropathies.

Prades, Marta

Degree in Veterinary Medicine (1981) and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (1995) from the University of Cordoba (Spain). Associate professor since 1992 and head professor since 1997, of the Department of Animal Medicine and Surgery, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Barcelona, Autonomous University of Barcelona UAB. Currently, she is head professor of Equine Surgery Service Veterinary Hospital at UAB. She obtained the validation of the veterinary title in the U.S. (1982-1983). She made an internship in Internal Medicine at University of Florida (1983-1984) , a horse surgery residency at University of Florida (1984-1987) and she was clinical instructor in surgery at Washington State University Equidae (1987-1991). She was coordinator of Post-graduate Physical Therapy in horses from 1998-2009 and Graduate Coordinator of the Master Equine Physiotherapy from 2010. She obtained the American College Veterinary Surgery Diploma in 1991 and the European College Diploma Veterinary Surgery in 1993. She was Ph.D. In 1995. She is member of the Association of Osteosynthesis since 1993. She has 25 scientific publications in international journals and has made 50 conference presentations. Her specialties are arthroscopic surgery and research in Regenerative Therapies for the musculoskeletal system and locomotion.

Has participated in several publications, communications and lectures about endoscopy and miminally invasive surgery in Spain.

Rivera, Mª Montserrat

Dr Rivera del Alamo obtained her degree in veterinary sciences at the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 1997. After obtaining the degree, she performed an internship focused on equine medicine. Subsequently, she performed doctoral studies, obtaining the PhD degree in 2003 at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Later on, she followed a residence program in small animals reproduction, becoming a diplomat in reproduction by the European College of Animal Reproduction (ECAR) in 2009. Nowadays, Dr Rivera del Alamo works at the Autonomous University of Barcelona developing teaching, clinical and research tasks.

Salazar, Verónica

Dr Salazar graduated in 2001 from Veterinary School at Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). She completed a PhD on Neurosciences at Medical School in Complutense University of Madrid from 2001 to 2005. From 2005 to 2008 she completed an Anesthesiology Residency at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY). She then worked at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket (UK) as a Clinical Anesthetist from 2008 to 2010. She moved back to Spain in 2010 were she became Head of the Anesthesia Section at the Alfonso X El Sabio University of Madrid (Spain). She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesiologists in 2010. Her main interests are neuropathic pain and anesthetic management of the critical patient.

Serrano, Sergi

Graduated from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona in 1993. After 10 years practising emergency medicine, he moved to the UK to complete an emergency and critical care residency at the Royal Veterinary College in London. He became a Diplomate ACVECC in 2006.In 2008 he moved to the USA, where he has been working since. He has published numerous papers and book chapters on emergency and critical care related topics, and has lectured at meetings in Europe, North America and South America. His areas of interest include monitoring of perfusion, traumatic brain injury, pediatric emergency and critical care, and transfusion medicine.

Villaverde, Cecilia

She obtained her veterinary degree in 2000 by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), where she also obtained her PhD in animal nutrition in 2005. After two years as a post-doctoral researcher in feline nutrition at the University of California a Davis (UCD), she completed a two-year residency in small animal clinical nutrition at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (UCD). Since 2010, she is board certified in veterinary nutrition by the American College of Veterinary Nutrition (ACVN®) and by the European College of Veterinary and Comparative Nutrion (ECVCN). Currently, she is the chief of service of the Servei de Dietètica i Nutrició at the Fundació Hospital Clínic Veterinari (UAB).

Wijnberg, Inge

Inge Wijnberg ( 28.10.1965, born Leeuwarden, NL) studied at the graduated in 1990 “with Merits” at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine , Utrecht, NL Utrecht University. Before this, she studied in the United States of America in 1988-1989 in order to achieve an additional Doctorate grade (Zoo Animal Medicine (Brookfield Zoo, Illinois), Medical Services (Anesthesiology, Intensive Care and Radiology), and Equine Medicine and Surgery (University of Missouri) and obtained an extra doctorate grade for Postdoctoral grade Veterinary Medicine. After working in private mixed practice and for Prof. Dr. A.D.M.E. Osterhaus at the Dept. of Immunobiology RIVM, Bilthoven, NL in 1993, she started in 1995 a residency in Equine Internal Medicine at the Dept. of Large Animal Internal Medicine. In 1996 a Preceptor ship of 10 weeks was followed in Equine Cardiology, echocardiography and general ultrasound at the University of Pennsylvania supervised by Prof Dr. Virginia Reef. She registered in 2000 as Specialist KnMvD Equine Internal Medicine while staring a start PhD tract “Graduate School of Animal Health” that was was granted a PhD in May 2002 on the topic of “The diagnostic possibilities on EMG needle examination in the horse”. In 2001 she became Art. 9 officer (laboratory animal Officer). In 2004 she was registered as Diplomat European College of Equine Internal Medicine. In 2005 a BKO was obtained (basic qualification teaching) Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University. Since 2003 she is working as Assistant Professor Equine Internal Medicine, at the University, Dept. of Equine Sciences, Utrecht University. She published over 49 scientific manuscripts and over 30 proceedings as first author. Areas of expertise and special interest are: cardiology, neuromuscular disorders/ clinical neurophysiology, neonatal intensive care.
