to the official website of the 11th Congress of the European Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society.
To fulfill its mission EVECCS organizes this annual congress to promote the study, development, and practice of veterinary emergency medicine and critical patient care in Europe.
Online registration is possible till 4th June 2012
Once again this year Royal Canin kindly offers free registration for the main congress for young veterinarians and veterinary nurses (max. 35 years). The decision will be made on a first-to-come-first-to-serve basis by Royal Canin. If successful your registration fee will be refunded to you.
The theme of this year’s main programme is "Let’s brain storm, care on the neurological patient" and it refers to one of the most important type of emergency and critically ill patients. A broad spectrum of internationally renowned speakers will focus on the neurologic system discussing an array of related topics, from the pathophysiology of the neural damage in traumatic events to the up-date of the therapeutic approach. Related to the main theme many other aspects of emergency and critical care will be addressed.
If you wish to know what's going on, you can see this presentation video of the EVECCS Congress and the city of Barcelona
Our scientific programme includes streams for small animal vets, equine vets and veterinary nurses. The Congress also offers a pre-congress day which will address a compilation of topics that are out of the ordinary, under the motto ‘Then and now...from small animals to humans’. Workshops, exciting and practical as always, will be offered to all delegates, including workshops for the equine and nursing streams. Check it out by reviewing the programme.
The official congress language is English. Simultaneous translation into Spanish will not be provided.
Call for Abstracts
As in previous years there will be the opportunity to presentate scientific abstracts that summarize original research. Abstracts will be reviewed by the Education and Research Committee of EVECCS. For more information and detailed instructions see the call for abstracts section. Thanks to everyone who completed the survey at the 10th EVECCS Congress held in 2011 in Utrecht. The information collected has been thoroughly reviewed and is being used to improve our college and future congress events. All of those who completed the survey were entered into a prize draw for free registration to the 11th EVECCS Congress taking place in Barcelona June 15-17th 2012. The lucky winner was Marieke de Vries from the United Kingdom.
Marieke graduated from Utrecht University in 2001. During an internship at a large equine referral clinic in the Netherlands, she gained interest in anesthesia and decided to relocate to the University of Cambridge, UK, where she undertook a residency in veterinary anesthesia. After her residency, Marieke worked as a clinical anesthetist in a small animal referral center in Surrey for 18 months before joining the Animal Health Trust in February 2010. Marieke gained her RCVS certificate in veterinary anesthesia in 2004, and became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Anesthesia in 2009.
Marieke had this to say about why she attended the EVECCS congress in 2011:
"I guess the reason why I attended last year’s conference and will be attending this year’s one, is the fact that we as anesthetists are also heavily involved in the critical care at the AHT. I do like critical care, hence my interest in attending the conferences, to increase my knowledge and to listen to and share each other’s experience. I hope to be able to take home advice and new ideas. Last year we visited with 3 people from my work, I do hope I can persuade one of our residents to come again."
We will be conducting another survey at the Congress in Barcelona and we will be running the lottery again. Make sure you fill in your questionnaire for your chance to win!
